Да, пожалуй, если думать о той самой Америке, представляется Брюс Спрингстин, патриот и кумир каждого настоящего американца. Только дело в том, что вместе с Америкой – лидером свободного мира, завоевателем нефтяных диктаторов и источником всех современных тенденций, есть Америка другая, которой вроде бы уже давно не существует, но она есть. Это Америка не мегаполисов, айфонов, бомбардировщиков и хип-хопа, а Америка маленьких городков, где все друг друга знают. Не навязчивая и подавляющая, а тихая и мирная.
В малоизвестном шоу Portlandia, высмеивающем повадки хипстеров, для обозначения такой альтернативной страны как-то использовали термин “Al Gore America” – та Америка, которая была бы, если бы на выборах в 1999 победил Эл Гор. Тогда не было бы 9/11, вторжений в арабские страны, Майкла Мура и множества других последствий правления администрации Буша. Америка шла бы по пути, частично установленному Клинтону – к гармоничному, мирному существованию. Страна, которой не нужно было бы воевать; где все усилия были бы направлены на улучшение жизни внутри самой страны.
Так вот, Спрингстином такой Америки мог бы быть Дэмиен Джурадо – человек из другой Вселенной, которому нет ничего милее пейзажей даже не родного Огайо, для которого внутренние поиски (необязательно успешные) важнее материального состояния. И, что главное, поиски Дэмиена внутри самого себя при желании применяются на всю нацию, ведь, в конце концов, Америка – это 300 млн таких же людей, как и Дэмиен.
Легенда узкого круга, о нем редко пишут журналы и его не показывают телеканалы, и, возможно, это первая и последняя статья, что вы прочтете об этом альбоме на русском языке (надеюсь, что нет). На протяжении своей уже долгой карьеры, Дэмиен записывал один фолк-альбом за другим, каждый раз звучал свежо, мудро и интересно, все глубже углубляя слушателя в экскурс в свой выдающийся разум. Словом, Дэмиен – не фолк-музыкант, Дэмиен и есть фолк. Настоящий.
Наконец, Дэмиен замахнулся на то, что скромягам сингер-сонграйтерам редко удается – на обелиск, первая часть которого вышла пару лет назад, а вторую Вы сейчас слушаете. Если прошлый альбом, Maraqopa, по словам Дэмиена, был основан на его сне, в котором человек исчез с концами и о нем никто никогда больше не слышал, то этот – о человеке, который также исчез, но пытаясь найти себя; просто так вышло, что обратно он уже не вернулся. И он намного, намного религиознее – Джош Тиллман в своей статье сравнивает этот альбом чуть ли не с новым пришествием Христа, и у меня нет причин с ним не соглашаться
Звучит Brothers and Sisters of the Eternal Son именно как сиквел к Maraqopa, с продолжением его музыкальных тенденций. Джурадо здесь больше углубляется в свое увлечение дабом и латинскими ритмами (босса новой?), которые нужно будет постараться, чтобы услышать, привлекает больше музыкантов, практически избавляется от формата акустических баллад, и вот Дэмиен Джурадо – уже не скромный мужик с гитарой, а лидер большой группы, которой он дирижирует и в его внутренние поиски отправляется не он один, а целая экспедиция.
