Первые три альбома были выполнены на редкость профессионально (что неудивительно, учитывая предыдущий опыт музыкантов) - работы получили великолепные рецензии в музыкальной прессе, однако покупали их неохотно. Группа расширила состав участников, но и этот шаг не дал положительного результата, и в начале 1973 года Little Feat распались.
В течение года Л. Джордж и Б. Пейн работали в качестве сейшнменов (Doobie Brothers, Бонни Райт, Джон Себастьян, Роберт Палмер и др.) и в 1974 году вновь собрали Little Feat (тогда же в состав группы вошел опытный гитарист и композитор Пол Баррэр). Первый же альбом разошелся тиражом 100 тысяч экземпляров; группа выступала с концертами в Англии, открывая программу The Who.
Постепенно Л. Джордж уступил позицию лидера, и основными композиторами Little Feat стали Б. Пейн и Пол Баррэр. Наконец, в 1978 году группа выпустила двойной концертный альбом «Waiting For Columbus», который в короткое время стал «золотым»; в том же году Л. Джордж продюсировал пластинку Grateful Dead. В апреле 1979 года при записи альбома «Down On The Farm» группа вновь распалась - Л. Джордж начал удачную сольную карьеру, но 29 июня 1979 года умер от сердечного приступа: ему было 34 года.
В 1981 году музыканты выпустили еще один двойной альбом (студийный), в который вошли вещи, отбракованные при подготовке предыдущих пластинок, - к удивлению специалистов, этот альбом оказался едва ли не самым лучшим среди всех дисков Little Feat.
После почти семи лет работы по отдельности группа вновь собралась, заменив Л.Джорджа двумя новыми музыкантами, и уже выпустила несколько альбомов, которые, в целом, повторяют прежние работы, хотя саунд несколько ужесточился.
