Уильямс продолжала много выступать, и со временем ее стиль окончательно сформировался: неизменные элементы фолка, рока и кантри стали фирменной чертой певицы. К концу семидесятых она была готова попробовать свои силы в студийной работе. Так, альбом кавер-версий различных блюзовых и кантри композиций, получивший название Ramblin', увидел свет в 1979 году. Спустя год состоялся релиз пластинки Happy Woman Blues (1980), на которую вошли уже оригинальные песни Люсинды. Лонгплей привлек внимание слушателей, а следующего студийного альбома Уильямс им пришлось ждать долгих восемь лет. Тем не менее, вышедший в 1988 году одноименный альбом Lucinda Williams полностью оправдал все ожидания меломанов. Более того, третий лонгплей оказался настолько сильным, что в 1998 году он был переиздан и получил несколько бонус-треков. Многие критики сошлись во мнении, что Lucinda Williams стала одной из самых сильных работ певицы, а к 2000 году в США было продано более ста тысяч копий пластинки.
В 1994 году исполнительница удостоилась награды Грэмми за песню Passionate Kisses в номинации Лучшая Песня В Стиле Кантри. Престижная награда стала лучшим доказательством того, что творчество Люсинды пришлось по вкусу не только ее поклонникам, но и членам жюри премии Грэмми. А это, согласитесь, многое говорит о качестве материала, представленного Люсиндой. В девяностых годах двадцатого века певица порадовала меломанов такими сильными студийными работами как Sweet Old World (1992) и Car Wheels On A Gravel Road (1998). Стоит отметить, что последний занял достойное место в дискографии Люсинды. В двадцать первом веке она порадовала своих поклонников традиционно сильными лонгплеями: Essence (2001), World Without Tears (2003) и многими другими. В 2005 году состоялся релиз первого концертного альбома певицы, получившего название Live @ The Fillmore. Отличная подборка композиций и невероятная атмосфера пришлись по вкусу не только старым слушателями Уильямс, но и всем ценителям живого звука.
В 2007 году вышла студийная работа West, занявшая третью строчку Кантри-Чарта в Канаде, а в следующем году лонгплей Little Honey (2008) сумел добраться и до самой вершины того же хит-парада. Эти успешные работы доказали, что у Уильямс по-прежнему есть масса свежих идей, которыми она с удовольствием делится со слушателями. Искренность – вот за что меломаны так полюбили творчество Люсинды, и эта открытость и стала визитной карточкой певицы. В 2011 году исполнительница выпустила свой новый лонгплей под названием Blessed, ставший логичным развитием ее предыдущих работ.
