Непростая обстановка, в которой создаются песни BJM, и в целом образ жизни участников коллектива показаны в документальном фильме DiG! режиссера Онди Тимонер, наблюдавшей за жизнью BJM в течение семи лет.
Основатель группы Антон Ньюкомб знаменит своим сложным характером – известны случаи, когда он затевал драки с публикой или товарищами по команде прямо во время концертов. Регулярная ротация членов группы также во многом объясняется вздорными повадками ее лидера. За двадцать лет существования в ее составе играло более 40 музыкантов, а единственным неизменным участником BJM остается сам Ньюкомб. В разное время в BJM играли: Мэтт Холливуд, основавший впоследствии группу The Out Crowd ; Питер Хейс, который сейчас играет в Black Rebel Motorcycle Club ; Джоэл Гион, создавший в 2008 году коллектив The Dilettantes; лос-анджелесский продюсер и инженер Роб Кампанелла, который работал с The Tyde, Beachwood Sparks, Dead Meadow, Mia Doi Todd, Frausdots, Scarling, а также играет в собственной группе The Quarter After; основатель The Warlocks Бобби Хекшер; основатель австралийской группы The Lovetones Мэтт Тоу; выступающая сольно артистка Миранда Ли Ричардс.
Нынешний состав группы: Антон Ньюкомб (гитара, вокал), Мэтт Холливуд (гитара, вокал), Фрэнки Тидроп (гитара), Рики Рене Майми (гитара), Коллин Хина (бас-гитара), Дэниэль Оллэр (ударные), Роб Кампанелла и Джоэл Гион (орган, гитара, перкуссия).
Альбом My Bloody Underground вышел в 2008 году. Причем его официальному выходу предшествовал инициированный самой группой «слив» сырого материала в Интернет: начиная с сентября 2007 года его можно было скачать на официальном сайте BJM. Эта история повторяется и с новым альбомом группы Who Killed Sgt. Pepper? Его релиз был намечен на 1 января 2010 года, однако был отложен на 23 февраля 2010 года. Однако на сайте группы прослушать новые песни и клипы на них были доступны еще осенью 2009 года.
На данный момент (октябрь 2008) дискография группы насчитывает 12 студийных альбомов, 6 EP, 15 синглов, не считая многочисленных сборников.
